MyKitchenRadar is a family kitchen app that tells you how many days each food at home will last, like "curd: about 1 day", and reminds everyone before it runs out. Reminders come at 8:00, the evening before something finishes, and the evening before you shop.

## Why reminders, not another list to check

A list only helps if someone opens it. Milk runs out at breakfast because nobody looked at the fridge the night before.

MyKitchenRadar sends the reminder to you. It already counts down each item, so it sees the milk running low before anyone opens the fridge.

## The four reminders

| Reminder | When | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| Morning digest | 8:00 every morning something is running low | "3 things are running low" |
| Finishes today | 6 pm the evening before an item is expected to finish, and 8:00 on the day | That item, such as "Milk finishes today" |
| Buy list | The evening before your shopping day | Your buy list, grouped Needed by tomorrow and This week |
| Use first | When fresh food should be eaten soon | Items like curd or spinach |

Only items about to finish get their own urgent alert. Anything else running low waits for the morning digest.

## The morning digest at 8:00

The digest arrives at 8:00 as one notification, such as "3 things are running low". On Monday, 9 Nov in the sample kitchen, those are milk (finishes today), curd (about 1 day) and tomato (about 2 days).

Change the digest time in Settings. If breakfast is cooked at 6:30, set it earlier.

## The buy list, the evening before you shop

Set your shopping day once. If it is Saturday, the buy list reminder comes on Friday at 7 pm, with time to check the shelf and add the paneer for Sunday.

## Use first, for food that spoils

Milk, curd, greens and tomato have a freshness clock as well as a countdown. When one should be eaten soon, the app marks it **Use first** and reminds you, so the spinach gets cooked before it goes off.

## Widgets on the home screen

- **Small widget:** what is low, like "Low: milk, curd"
- **Medium widget:** the top 4 items, each with its countdown bar and words, like "Milk: finishes today", "Curd: about 1 day", "Tomato: about 2 days", "Spinach: about 2 days"

The colors follow the app's one rule: red for today or 1 day, amber for 2–6 days, green for 7 days or more. The words are always there too.

## Siri, when your hands are full

Your hands are in the dough and you just used the last of the milk. Say "Hey Siri, add milk to Kitchen Radar" and milk goes on the family buy list.

## How this differs from a reminder app

| | Reminder or to-do app | MyKitchenRadar |
|---|---|---|
| Who sets the reminder | You, for each item | The countdown, from what is running low |
| When it fires | At the time you typed | At 8:00, the evening before an item finishes, and the evening before shopping day |
| What it knows | The words you typed | How many days each item at home will last |

## Get the reminders

Tell the app your shopping day and digest time, and it decides what each reminder says. To set up the method by hand first, read [how to keep track of groceries at home](/guides/how-to-keep-track-of-groceries-at-home/).

## Questions

### What reminders does MyKitchenRadar send?

Four kinds. A morning digest at 8:00, and an urgent alert at 6 pm the evening before something finishes, repeated at 8:00 that day. The buy list comes the evening before your shopping day, and fresh food gets a use-first note.

### Can I change the time of the morning digest?

Yes. The digest is set to 8:00 by default, and you can pick another time in Settings.

### Can I turn notifications off?

Yes. Settings has a Notifications switch.

### What does the home screen widget show?

The small widget lists what is low, like "Low: milk, curd". The medium widget shows the top 4 items with their countdowns, such as milk finishes today and curd about 1 day.

### What can I say to Siri?

Say "Hey Siri, add milk to Kitchen Radar" and milk goes on the family buy list without opening the app.
