MyKitchenRadar is a family kitchen app that tells you how many days each food at home will last and reminds everyone before it runs out. It also suggests what to cook today from what is already there. Open the Cook tab for 3–5 dish ideas made from your own stock, in your family's cuisine.
The 6 pm question
At 6 pm someone asks what we can make tonight. There is half a bag of rice, a bunch of spinach with one day left, and curd that needs using.
A recipe search starts from a dish, and the dish often needs things you do not have. Whoever cooks ends up opening the fridge, checking the shelf and calling the person at the shop.
MyKitchenRadar already knows roughly what is at home, so Cook starts from the kitchen instead.
How Cook works
- Open Cook. The app looks at what is in stock today.
- See 3–5 dish ideas that use what you have, from your family's food culture and diet.
- Tap "ask for a recipe" when you want the steps for a dish.
- Send the menu to the cook, so whoever is cooking knows today's plan.
- Tap "I cooked this" when the meal is done.
A family that picked Tamil gets Tamil dishes. A family that picked Tamil and North Indian gets both.
An example, for illustration
Say the Today screen shows rice, toor dal, tomato, onion and spinach in stock, and curd marked Use first.
For a Tamil kitchen, ideas could look like sambar rice, a spinach poriyal, or curd rice to use the curd. For an American kitchen with eggs, bread and spinach in stock, they could look like a spinach omelet.
These dishes are examples to show the idea. The real suggestions depend on the app's dish list, your stock and your diet.
Menu to the cook
In many homes the person who plans the food and the person who cooks it are different people. One parent shops and the other cooks, a grandparent makes lunch, or a cook comes in every morning.
Menu to the cook sends today's menu to whoever is cooking, so they know what is planned before they start.
Lunchbox, weekly plan and leftovers
Beyond tonight's dinner, Cook has three more uses:
- Lunchbox: ideas for the school or office box, from what is in the kitchen
- Weekly plan: dishes for the week ahead, not only tonight
- Leftovers: ideas for what is left in the pot from yesterday
Your cuisine, your diet
Every family sets its diet once: veg, non-veg, egg, Jain or halal. It also picks one or more of 41 food cultures. Cook uses both, so a veg home does not get chicken curry and a Tamil home is not offered tacos.
- Tamil
- North Indian
- American
How this differs from recipe apps and meal planners
| Recipe app | Weekly meal planner | MyKitchenRadar Cook | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starts from | A dish you search | A plan for the week | What is in your kitchen today |
| Knows your stock | No | Usually not | Yes, from the countdown |
| Your cuisine | A search filter | A preference setting | The food culture you live in, one or more of 41 |
Cook from your own kitchen
Set your cuisine and diet once, and tonight's ideas come from the rice, dal and vegetables you already have. For Indian homes, see MyKitchenRadar for Indian kitchens.
Questions
How does MyKitchenRadar know what I can cook?
It already keeps a rough picture of the food at home and how many days each item will last. Cook uses that picture to suggest 3–5 dishes you can make today.
Will it suggest dishes from my own cuisine?
Yes. Ideas come from the food culture your family picked at setup. You can pick more than one of the 41, for example Tamil and North Indian in the same home.
We are vegetarian. Will it suggest meat?
You set your diet once: veg, non-veg, egg, Jain or halal. The dish ideas follow the diet you set.
Can I get the full recipe?
Yes. Tap "ask for a recipe" on a dish idea. Recipes are written in your language through SyntyAxis's server.
Can I plan more than today?
Yes. Cook also does a weekly plan, lunchbox ideas and ideas for leftovers.
Is this a recipe app?
No. A recipe app starts from a dish and sends you shopping. MyKitchenRadar starts from what is in your kitchen today.
